“Anything can happen…and…anything does.”
This quote and entire movie blew my mind! It is a tragic and inspiring story weaved together by great performances and amazing writing. The Poker House written and directed by Lori Petty (who also happens to act in one of my favourite movies EVER A League of Their Own) and based on her experiences growing up in a poor rural town in Iowa. Jennifer Lawrence provides a stunning performance as Agnes (her acting is amazing in everything she does also see Winter’s Bone). This quote just hit me in the chest, it’s so simple but yet so true in a world where honesty is often avoided.
And that’s the Truth
Nice story and strong recommendation. I can’t wait to see, “The Poker House”. In fact, I just decided to rent it via Amazon and watch it now while I’ve nothing else to do. Best!
Awesome! Let me know what you think!
The quote you referenced was the perfect end to such a sad, yet, courageous story. I also liked the ending of the story in that by telling the audience what happened to Agnes from the time she was singing in the car with her sisters onward, it distracted me enough to not dwell on the fate of her sisters, both of whom were wonderfully cast and simply adorable, albeit also in a tough and tender kind of mix.
I would recommend this movie to anyone, and I thank you for recommending it to me. It’s not exactly a guy type of action movie, but it is a human story that can tug at even a cynical and rugged old sailor’s humanity.
I have seen “A League of Their Own”, but not “Winter’s Bone”. After this recommendation and viewing, I will be looking for that one in the next day or two.
Be well and best wishes for a healthy, prosperous and exquisitely fun Spring and Summer.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Winter’s Bone also has Jennifer Lawrence as the lead! It is also a very touching and human story. I hope you enjoy it too!
ps I try not to think of movies guy or girl movies, there just movies 😉
Thanks for reading!
And it usually happens at the most inopportune time!
P. S. “A League of Their Own” is outstanding. I just saw it again the other night on Turner Classic Movies.
