It is What it is and This is What it is

I’ve been in denial. As many of you may know I have been writing what I’ve been calling a “story” that I thought may develop into a short story or a novella. I have realized recently that I have been lying to myself about what this story is meant to be. The truth is I have been scared to call it a novel because I didn’t believe I had the right to say I was writing a novel. I have no education in the area of writing besides a University 100 level English so how could I be writing novel?

Today that changed, I had an epiphany, being an artist of any kind does not mean you have to be educated in the area, you have to live it, breath it, believe it. I thought about it and I do live it, I do breath it and thanks to the response I have been getting on the internet and from people closest to me I now believe it! I received some advice from a person on twitter recently, she suggested I start promoting my book now even though it isn’t finished, and my blog is the perfect place to do that, so here goes:

Hi my name is Lindsay, I’m a writer who is writing a novel, it’s called Gray Hayles and it’s an unclassical story of life, love and loss. I’m looking into self publishing and hoping to have it out within the next two years. I won’t rush it though because I know you can’t rush art! If you’re interested, I have 4 excerpts posted under Gray Hayles.

Ahhhh I feel much better now that it’s out in the open. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Such an empowering revelation. I am looking forward to your novel, because of how you convey honesty, love, humility and wisdom, not because of any credential you may or may not have. Don’t tell anybody, but I am a high school drop out and I had a .13GPA at the end of my servitude to public education. I believe you will continually surprise yourself and your life will be full of amazing revelations. You inspire many people, and that is real life happening, with real results that you will never be able to fit inside a frame to hang on the wall. Nothing but love, support, and encouragement from over here!

  2. Your secret is safe with me ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am forever grateful and appreciative of your support! Truly humbled by the things you have said about my writing, I still sometimes feel like I’m not making sense when I write so I am glad the things that are most important to me are being conveyed. Again can’t thank you enough for taking the time to read my work ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. How many times have I said to myself, “I could write a book?” Well, I guess in a sense in the form of this blog I am – as are you. Good for you and I sincerely hope you stay with it. You have something to say – and we have something we need to hear. I hope to get an autographed copy when it’s done!

  4. Yay for you Lindsay! I love a good epiphany – sending you positive vibes for that manuscript! ๐Ÿ™‚

Wicked! I don’t think many of us set out to write a novel…it just sort of happens that way. Good luck!

I’ve been a little self- absorbed lately and haven’t been reading or commenting on other people’s blogs. For some reason I became obssessed with posting each day. So, even though I was bowled over by the first excerpt of Gray Hayles that I read (Under A Canopy Of Stars), I didn’t read any others until just recently. I have to admit I never questioned whether or not your two characters were a man and a woman, I just took it for granted-until I read the second excerpt. Can I say “Wow” again? You have got to continue this story. It doesn’t have to be a linear telling. In fact, i think if the story unfolds out of sequence it might be even stronger. I’m already in love with your main character and want to know more. She has so much love within her. And so much fear. But of what? I need to read more. Get serious about writing. You’ve had your break. Now make me happy.,

    • This was the first excerpt that I let that little secret out. I was worried ppl wouldn’t take the story seriously if they knew it was about two women. I’m glad you are enjoying it, I will definitely be posting more excerpts for you soon ๐Ÿ™‚ thank you again for the support, it truly means the world to me!
